Self Reflection / AR digital product/ service idea 💡
What I would design if I would prepare a case study for IKEA.
I believe once we experience certain acts/ behavior /situations we learn from them. I think this ties up to Sara Ahmed's phenomenology theory which in the simplistic form our bodies are vehicles and we learn and interact with the world with our bodies. There is no better to emphasize something other than embodied into the story and have a personal problem with the problem if it not personal make it personal!
As I have been moving lots of furniture around and visiting few recycling centers, I have witnessed how modularity/ lightness/ hackability are important principles for sustainability and circular design. How easily people throw away valuable products someone trash someone’s valuable items.
Also, I had chance to think about AR case study potential or ideas ( there might be similar apps since I am not only creative carried furniture around recently)
Are there AR apps in which you can scan objects and observe how well they fit into space?
This kind of app can use in many ways for people like my mum who loves to move furniture around they can scan the furniture they have in the house and see how everything looks like when switching things up 😊💡( Her habits and my insights from observing people plus some of the recent articles I have read triggered this idea )
As I mentioned above, I have read some articles about how AR pushing sales and thus increasing the production of new products. How about circularly, would be cool if I am able to scan furniture from the recycling ♻️ center / local second-hand shop / Facebook etc marketplace and see how they fit into space. More advanced version of this kind of idea animating yourself and products in VR space. Imagine you are able to upload your workflow/ how you behave in house and see how your digital duplicate engages and communicate with the object 😎 Designer tool speculation imagine you can upload user journey maps/service models into VR and see animations of those stories that would be cool and base on your insight you can plan + facilitate co-creation and bodystorming seasons.
Back to my question are there AR apps that allow you to scan objects and add them into the environment? Instead of using black patterns to motivate more purchases, we should motive recycling and circularity
IKEA might already have something like this if not let develop it…
